MPPC BLITZ BUILD with HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Since 1976, when Habitat for Humanity was started, this wonderful organization has built over 200,000 homes for people in need around the globe. The local East Cooper Habitat for Humanity (ECHFH) was started in 1990, in the wake of Hurricane Hugo, and to date, they have constructed 48 homes. What a difference this organization makes!
This Memorial Day, Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church is partnering with ECHFH for the MPPC Habitat Blitz Build. As a church family, we will come together and build a home for a family in our community, and we need your help!
What You Can Do
There are several opportunities for you and your family to get involved in this exciting project. If you are excited about the build and think you could recruit five or ten others to work with you, then we need you to be a team leader. If you’d like to join a team and help with the build, then we need you! If you’re not able to assist on the worksite, but know your way around a kitchen, you could prepare a meal for the work crew on a certain day, and we need you!
Aside from work on the site, we also have financial needs. We have received a pledge that will cover the sponsorship of the house, but if we raise $25,000 in donations or gifts-in-kind (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) we can stretch this gift to build two houses, one this year and one next. This might be where you are called to help out.

Throughout February and March, we are recruiting volunteers for the project. Beginning on Memorial Day weekend, we will conduct an intense week of work and the house will be framed, sided, and roofed. Beginning on Saturday, May 24th, there will be work times available through the following Saturday (excluding Sunday). There will then be a three-week break so that subcontractors can do electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc., and we will finish the house’s paint, trim, landscaping, and finishing touches, by the end of June.
Whether you have been involved with Habitat in the past, or have always just been interested, this will be a great opportunity for you to jump in on the action!

How You Can Do It
You may sign up to volunteer and select your times of availability on the MPPC website (www.mppc.net), beginning in March. You may also make a financial donation towards the project through the East Cooper Habitat website www.eastcooperhabitat.org, and on the form where it asks for your “Company Name,” put MPPC, so that the funds will go to the MPPC Habitat Blitz Build.
