Crisis Ministries

Crisis Ministries provides meals, shelter, and other services to the Charleston area’s homeless through its soup kitchen, men’s shelter, and family center.  The organization also provides medical assistance and vocational training.  Volunteer ministers and church members provide counseling, Bible studies, and prayer services.

The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center

The Lowcountry Children's Center is a community-based program, which coordinates and integrates a full range of services for abused children and their families. Your donation will help fill the gap between the funding received and the funding needed to serve the 1,000 children seen a year.

East Cooper Community Outreach

ECCO was formed by local churches after Hurricane Hugo.  It remains an organization of neighbors helping neighbors, striving to meet the needs and improve the quality of life with compassion and respect for the dignity and worth of all.

East Cooper Habitat for Humanity

East Cooper Habitat for Humanity is a local affiliate of Habitat

for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness world wide. East Cooper Habitat for Humanity builds homes with donated funds and volunteer labor.  The homes are then sold to hard-working, low-income local families.  Contact Info: www.eastcooperhabitat.org

East Cooper Meals on Wheels

ECMOW provides a daily hot meal to anyone in the East Cooper area who is unable to do so on his/her own.  They are currently providing 200+ meals a day, as well as some basic household needs and gifts at Christmas.

Hands of Christ

Hands of Christ is a Presbyterian outreach program which supplies school uniforms and supplies to children in the Lowcountry who need this help.  2007 will be the fifth year for this program and 11 churches are currently involved.  Nearly 2500 children received assistance last year and 3000 received assistance in 2007.

 

MPPC's distribution center is one of eleven sites and we are asked to provide volunteers for the other sites, just as those churches send volunteers to help us.

H.E.L.P. of Charleston

A telephone ministry begun by Presbyterians and run totally by volunteers, H.E.L.P. maintains a food bank and a clothes closet and provides limited monetary assistance in emergencies.  They also assist with prescriptions for those without medical insurance.    843-723-4010 

 

Helping and Lending Outreach Support

HALOS is a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Eve Spratt of MUSC that works with “Partners” to improve the quality of life for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.  HALOS works directly with the Department of Social Services to identify the areas of greatest need.  Contact:  Dottie Kelley 843-856-8918

  

My Sister’s House

My Sister’s House is a shelter providing comprehensive services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. They provide counseling, legal and vocational assistance, and assist the clients in finding permanent housing.  Contact Info: www.my.sistershouse.org

Thornwell Home

Thornwell Home, Presbyterian ministry in Clinton, SC, has a unique ministry to children from broken families. United Methodist Relief Center

United Methodist Relief Center makes long-lasting changes in peoples’ lives by repairing and rehabilitating substandard housing and providing new housing for very low-income families. Windwood Farm

Windwood Farm provides residential care and treatment for

boys who have suffered from neglect.  There are several

houses, a school building, and a barn on this rural property,

and the boys are able to enjoy family-style living as they learn

to lead productive lives.
